Regarding the Nurse Family Partnership
What is the Nurse-Family Partnership?
- The Nurse-Family Partnership is a program for women having
their first baby. You will have a nurse who will visit you at
home, (or other place that you decide on). She will visit you
during pregnancy, after the baby is born, and until your baby
turns two years old. This is a voluntary program – it is
up to you if you want to be part of it.
- Your nurse is specially trained to help you at this special
time. We know that this time is exciting, and sometimes scary.
Your nurse will help you learn things like:
o How to be healthy so your baby
is born healthy
o How to be the best parent for
your new baby
o What you want to do in life in
the exciting years to come.
When the nurse visits me, what we
will do?
- A lot of what happens during the visits depends on you.
You are in charge of your life and new baby's life. During
the visits you may talk about things like:
- Your own health
- Making your home a safe place for your baby
- Setting goals for your own life
- How to be the best mom to your baby
- Getting services available to your area
- How to have family and friends help you be the best mom
with your new baby.
How often will I meet with my nurse?
Meetings are every week or every other week for most of the time.
You and your nurse will decide how often to meet. When you and
the nurse are getting to know each other, or when the baby is
born, the nurse will visit more often. Visits will be once a month
right before your child turns two years old.
Is the program just for moms, or
can dads do it too?
- We want to help you and your baby to have great lives together.
We think that involving dads, other family, and friends is very
important.
- Because moms carry the baby and are the first people to take
care of a baby, the mom is the main person the nurse visits.
How much other people get involved is something you will decide
and your nurse will support.
Who can be in this program?
- The Nurse-Family Partnership is available in Columbia, Montour,
Snyder, Lower Luzerne & Upper Northumberland Counties. You
can be in the program if you meet the following:
- You start as early in your pregnancy as you can, no later
than your 28th week of pregnancy.
- You’re expecting your first baby.
- If you live in Columbia, Montour, Snyder, Northumberland,
or Luzerne county.
- You WANT to be in it!
Does it cost me to be in this program?

pay anything.
